Things You Should Know: Vol. 3

Everybody excited for Game 1 tonight? Know what I’m excited for? The traffic in Boston. It’s going to be G-R-A-N-D.

But seriously, go Sox.

I wanted to write a quick post about a couple things that I’ve been thinking about lately. The first part is directed at personal trainers and coaches and it’s a small, but effective, thing to keep in mind when training clients. The second part is just for fun. Because why not.

1. Be careful of your setup/stance/positioning when you’re training clients.

What do I mean by that? Well, if your client is doing a plank, don’t be practicing your squat-to-stand pattern in front of their face, if you see what I’m getting at.

This also goes for half-kneeling stances.

Along with awkward body positioning comes physically manipulating clients into the correct position. A good rule of thumb is if you wouldn’t touch your mother in that place, don’t touch your clients there either. Good examples of this are showing how to roll the pecs or doing glute activation drills.
